I gather from Cristina, my cellar door manager, that
you were a bit confused when she requested that you
sign a photography release, so I thought that I would
get in touch and just clarify our position on this.
I have attached a news document that explains problems
that we have had in the past with the misuse of images
taken of Rippon and hopefully this will have you understand
why we do request that all visitors to the vineyard
- journalists, wine writers and professional photographers
– sign a property release. The gist of the release
simply requests that we are contacted
prior to the use of photos for commercial purposes.
We do not exert a charge for the use of our photographs,
we just ask that we are contacted before photographs
taken on our land are used and to ensure that the
pictures are correctly attributed as being those of
Rippon Vineyard and Winery. Again, the attached article
should explain why we ask this of people – there
is nothing sinister in this, we just wish to retain
the dignity and integrity of our view and image.
If you are planning only to use the photographs for
your website, this is fine – if you anticipate
using it further, I would request that you do sign
a copy of the photography release (a copy of which
I can email to you) and perhaps scan it back to me
– I hope you understand the reasoning behind
this.
